Film city renamed as Dadasaheb Phalke chitra nagar is a film studio complex in the green region of Mumbai. The place not so polluted like other places in Mumbai, has the beautiful picturesque and serene view and thus is perfect location for the sets of television serials and Bollywood films. Most of the films and serials are produced here in film city. Film city is located on the outskirts of Sanjay Gandhi National Park and in the lush green vicinity of Aarey colony. Built in the year 1978 by the Maharashtra state government to help bollywood film industry flourish and to grow. Film city is built on rural scrubland and is spread across around 350 acres of land and has around twenty indoor studios and many outdoor sets for film shoots. Film city is the place where India’s complete dose of bollywood glamour, gossips etc generates from.
Normally no visitors are allowed due to the security reasons, but there are few tours like Mumbai bollywood tour and Mumbai film city tour who has started with two hours guided tour inside the film city. The tour is operated on daily basis and guides in English and Hindi. It starts with the welcome drink and a short flashback of bollywood. Visitors can also check out costumes and props used in popular movies. The location of film city has proved to be the best and versatile for many reasons. Film city has shown and given its best from the sets portraying overseas locations, like in the movie Kal Ho Naa Ho and from sets which has showed the ancient architectural look in film such as Devdas. The sets of Devdas had become very famous for its beautified real colonial look ancient sets. Thus there are many popular movies whose shooting is taken place in the film city and every year a big film is filmed here since past many years with the big banner like Subhash Ghai’s Mukta arts, Karan Johar’s Dharma productions, Sanjay Leele Bhansali’s SLB, Rajshri banners etc. along with the films, the film city complex also makes several television soaps here. The sets of famous daily soaps like Tarak Mehta Ka Ulta Chasma, Yeh rishta kya kehlata hai, Uttaran, Comdey nights with Kapil, etc. are also located in the film city.
Apart from the film sets and the sets of daily soaps, film city also houses a well known college of Subash Ghai, Whistling Woods International, where there are various courses available on media and fine arts. The college premises have a beautiful campus as it is located on the beautiful location.
The natural beauty of the place is very pleasant and appealing for a beautiful stroll around the film city. The place is very cool as it is surrounded with greenery of the aarey colony and lakes. The place is just very different from the living of Mumbai, it’s like a mini hill station in Mumbai.
Film city is accessed by road ways easily from Western express highway, public transports like buses, taxis and cabs are allowed till the entrance of film city. Private vehicles are allowed all over inside the film city excluding few of the security places, but if lucky you can access that places as well. There are no hotels inside film city, so for accommodation there are many hotels nearby Goregoan and in Mumbai. Inside film city there are few canteens available for refreshments, so if opting for good restaurants, again the option is outside the film city.
A half day tour is enough to explore the glory of Bollywood’s fame and glamour. Film city is thus one of the best place for filming in the history of Bollywood.
