Saint Helena Island situated  in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and is one of the world’s most isolated islands. Saint Helena named after Saint Helena of Constantinople, an island of volcanic origin in the South Atlantic Ocean.  Saint Helena island, one of the most inaccessible and forbidding- looking place on the earth, lying 1,200 miles west of the southwestern coast of Africa. Its maximum length is 10.5 miles and breadth is of 6.5 miles. The perpendicular cliffs rise 1, 600 to 2,300 feet on the eastern, northern and western sides of the island.


This island was discovered by the Portuguese in 1502 as an uninhabited with an abundance of trees and fresh water. This island was most importantly known because British used this island as a place of exile for napoleon and more than 5000 Boer prisoners. Located in the south Atlantic ocean, more than 2000 km away saint Helena is one of the remotest place of the world. The nearest port of the island is Nambia and the nearest international airport is the quarto de fevererio airport, service of this will start from 2015 till the time it is only accessible by boat. This island also associated with two more islands in the southern Atlantic one is ascension island about 1,300 km away and second is Tristan da cunha, 2430 km to the south.
