There is no need to describe the magic of California state of Unites States. In 1784, lots of land grants were made by Spanish government including 300,000 acres granted to Manuel Nieto where Alhambra was built later. The city was named Alhambra after Washington Irving’s book ‘Tales of the Alhambra’ and it was just an unincorporated area during 19th century. At the starting of 20th century, Alhambra was incorporated as a city and after that this city did not look back. Colleges, Universities, museums, hospitals and many other architectures were built in the city and economic growth took a bounce during 1950s. Today, the city has some of the best educational institutions in the country like California Institute of Technology, California State University and Pasadena City College nearby. A lot of festivals are held throughout the year like the Annual San Gabriel Valley Lunar New Year Parade & Festival, celebrating the Chinese New Year.


Alhambra has a warm climate with hot summers. The temperature varies from 42 degrees to 89 degrees throughout the year and there are no dry seasons. July is the hottest month and coldest month is January. The city does not experience any snowfall but gets 17 inches of rain per year. The humidity goes very high during summer season. The best time to visit Alhambra is during spring season.

Alhambra does not have its own international airport but there are five airports nearby and you can arrive at any airport as per your comfort. The nearest airport is Bob Hope Airport, located just 23 miles from the city center and then there is Long Beach Airport located just 25 miles from Alhambra. Other airports are Los Angeles International Airport with 30 miles, LA/Ontario International Airport with 33 miles and John Wayne Airport with 41 miles. Los Angeles International Airport is preferred mostly by visitors because of it receives flights from all major airlines and is one of the busiest airport of the country. You can easily get a cab, taxi, rental car or airport shuttle from any of these airports to reach Alhambra downtown easily.

The Attractions

Alamitos Bay Beach


The Alamitos Bay Beach is located in Los Angeles County and attracts thousands of visitors every year. The beach is famous for outdoor activities like boating, swimming, golfing, fishing and picnicking. There is no chance that you are going to be bored here because of some entertaining activities, good food and nearby attractions like Bixby Village Golf Course, Pio Pico State Park, Heartwell Golf Course and Huntington Beach State Park.  There is also the Alamitos Park nearby which covers an area of 23 acres featuring some park benches, picnic tables and play equipment. The park was built in 1981 and since then it has been a great place to hangout for tourists.

The Autry National Center is a museum located just 20 miles from the city downtown. The museum exhibits western arts, stories of western Frontiers, some great pieces of Pueblo Pottery and Native North American Beadwork. Some special events include Pan for Gold, The Long Riders, Mother’s Day Brunch at the Autry, Changes & Continuity, Museums of the Arroyo Day. Some musical events are also held here like Native Voices Festival and Western Music Association Monthly Jam. The Center remains open everyday and admission is free for public.
