Top Five Appliance Repair Problems and Their Solutions

Appliances may be durable and reliable but the sad fact is that the appliances we use at home disintegrate and fail to work properly after a particular span of time which is also called their lifetime. Life span of every electrical appliance varies with respect to their quality and proper functioning.

Here are the most common glitches that an electrician who repairs electrical appliances face:

1. Stalled Washing Machine

Many people transfer clothes to the dryer from the washer just to check if they are soaking in a soapy bath. Even though there is a possibility that the machine might break down or face a glitch in the middle of its working cycle. A logical reason for this is a damaged lid or door switch. Actually, the washer depends on a door sensor to assure that its lid is closed, it may stop working if there’s a complication with the switch. In most situations, the switch gets spoilt by rough use, such as when we slam the lid after dropping in a load.

Fixing Hack: A service technician replace the door switch.

2. Cold Dryer

Many people are aware of the fact that moisture gets extracted out of wet clothes and accessories by virtue of heat which is used by clothes dryers. If the machine dryer fails to function and doesn’t do its primary job then there is a good probability that there is some problem in the thermal fuse. The dryer will not produce any heat if this component is destroyed.

Fixing Hack: Replace the thermal fuse and check the cycling thermostat. If the heat returns, the machine should operate as expected.

3. Leaky Freezer

To save the people the time to defrost their freezer completely, modernised freezers have this feature by virtue of which they do this job themselves in set intervals of time. There is a particular cycle which is followed in which the melted water move towards the drip pan through the defrost drain. But there will be a problem if the path of water path is stuck with food and debris. In such a case, water will start to leak on the lower shelves. Generally, the water freezes which was initially in the liquid state. Furthermore, this leads to the formation of a sheet of ice in the freezer.

Fixing Hack: Have an appliance repair technician clean or replace the defrost drain.

4. Washer Won’t Wash

An agitator is one component on which almost all top loading machines are dependent. It is used to swish, spin and swirl clothes in the washing cycle taken up by the washer. The appliance literally stops working if this part stops to move. Mostly, a stalled agitator will go on to create noise while it struggles to move. The reason behind this is that they assume the problem cannot be sorted. As a result, many people simply go on to replace their old washer with a brand-new one. One thing which goes wrong here is this unnecessary investment o a new unit when the repairing cost was minimal, if compared.

Fixing Hack: Have the motor coupling replaced.

5. Silent Dishwasher

There is a glitch called as ‘float switch’ which is observed when the dishwater doesn’t run despite of being turned on. The part does normal functioning and restricts the amount of water that allowed to enter the appliance.

Fixing Hack: A service technician can help in removing object that is jamming the float switch without damaging the part. An experienced appliance repair technician can address any of the aforementioned issues.
