Parque Central Complex, Caracas

Parque Central Complex, Caracas

This tall building is a commercial, housing and a cultural development developed by Siso & Shaw located in the center of Caracas, the capital of Venezuela. The building is located right beside Paseo Vargase which is a public space located in the historic center of Caracas. The complex includes the twin towers which were completed in 1983, since completion the towers have become the face of architecture in Venezuela. Since 1979, the towers held the title for being the tallest building in Latin America. But the title was overtaken by Torre Mayor, Mexico City in the year 2003. As of 2014, Parque Central Complex is the third tallest building in Latin America, the second being Torre Mayor in Mexico City and the first being Gran Torre Santiago in Santiago, Chile. The total height of the tower, including the antennae is a staggering 861 feet. The building has 59 floors out of which 44 are used for residential purposes. The construction of the building started in the year 1970 but the residential buildings took just two years for their completion. The main architect of the complex is Daniel Fernández-Shaw, the developer is Centro Simón Bolívar and Siso & Fernández Shaw the main contractor. Since its completion the complex has been more than just a building and landmark for Caracas. It is not only used for commercial and housing purposes but also houses several cultural and government institutions.

About the Towers

Caracas_Central_Park_2

The towers offer a great view for all visitors, by being inside the tower one can experience a panoramic view of the whole city and the mountains surrounding the city of Caracas. Even though the towers take their name from the green refuge situated right in the heart of Caracas’ urban jungle, the towers are situated in the midst of several office buildings. In the year 2006, the Central Park Station on Line 4 Metro de Caracas opened in the vicinity of the complex to provide aid to the requirements of public transport. A staggering fact about the Parque Central Complex being the third tallest building in latin America is that the second tallest building, Torre Mayor in Mexico City is just a fraction of a meter taller than the architectural landmark of Venezuela. The height of the east tower increases by a considerable 45.6 meters due to the presence of an antennae which represents the sword of Simon Bolivar. Thus, increasing the total height of the tower to 262.5 meters.

The Fire of 2004

In October 17, 2004 a fire broke out in the east tower of the complex which housed government offices. The fire laid its impact on all the floors from 34th to 50th floor. The non-working condition of automatic sprinklers and standpipe systems was a major cause which lead to a lot of damage by the fire. Quite a lot of damage occurred because of this fire, resulting in partial collapse of two steel decks. The fire burned itself out by October 19th.

Merry in coastal Donostia, Spain

Merry in coastal Donostia, Spain

Some travel sites fulfil your hearts, some your mind, some memories are cherished, but there can only be a few places in the world which gives all these feeling at the same time. One of those destinations that gives you the ultimate satisfaction is definitely Donostia in Spain. This city is located in the coastal part of Spain and it is home to some of the best beaches, mouth-watering food and also the best of wines that one would find in the entire world. The city is also regarded as a coastal gem and being located in the French border, at the heart of Basque country and at the foot of Pyrenees, the place also has the second name of San Sebastian. Though Donostia is the official name given to the city, the name which is common among local people is San Sebastian.

San_Sebastian_Puente_Maria_Cristina

The city has a rich history under its name and the various parts of the city are a proof for that. The main part of the city where the tourists concentrate is the Old Town. The Old Town is basically six square blocks long and it is lined with tall buildings which are as narrow as they are tall. This very fact helps in making sure that the street allows only commuters and not vehicles into the streets as it is a rare sight to see in modern metropolis these days. The shops are great to see and to buy as well as the rates in these shops are pretty nominal when compared to the shops in other tourist destinations as they simply tend to increase the rates as the tourists have no other go other than buying in their shops. The other features of these streets is the number of open tapas air bars that are available here. It is easy to sit down, enjoy some wine while shopping in these streets as this option is not available in many of the shopping streets across the world. The pensions here are great as well. They are large rooms with an open balcony which faces the outside streets. The view that these pensions offer is pretty amazing as well.

San_Sebastian_Palacio_Miramar

The old section of the city is a small peninsula, one must say and the best time to visit this place is off-season, say the locals. The views from the bay area are pretty amazing and the sail-boats and other sailing activities that occur in the sea are a pretty as they look like tiny dots in the vast expanse of the sea. Not only the sea, but also the small parks that are available across the city are serene and provide a private space for you to spend with your family and friends.

If you are looking to take a walk in the city, then the best place to visit would be Santiago de Compostela. The trek in the steep ancient footpath along the undeveloped rocky coastline is quite a sight. Though these coastal trails are tough to watch as the trails are extremely confusing to first-timers, it is always advice to take help from the locals who have a thorough knowledge about the place and the trails.

San_Sebastian_from_Zurriola

One of the foremost things that comes to our mind when the word Spanish is said is definitely food and drinks. There are a lot of Spanish tapas all round the world, but it is nothing like it when compared to the tapas that are found in the Basque Country. These are considered to be the best of the best and people who go to Donostia for the eateries are certainly rejoiced by it. The day to day activities in this town are carried out with a fine bottle of wine on the table and a wonderful conversation that follows it.

San_Sebastian_Buen_Pastor

The public and private synergy of the city of San Sebastian has led to the mixture of culture and it has therefore made sure that people from various cultures are satisfied. This has also led to the city being announced as the European Capital of Culture for the year 2016. It shares this award with another city, Wroclaw, Poland. The city is pretty much famous for events that range from theatre to jazz, this city has got it all. The “jazzaldia”, as it is called is the San Sebastians’ annual festival for jazz. This jazz festival is the longest jazz festival that has been running for a really long time in Europe. The shows are held in different part of the city with different themes and some of the concerts even have free admission. Music enthusiasts from around the world gather here to listen to the amazing jazz music that is being played and enthral their soul with some of the best music.

Some of the other activities that take place in the city are mainly focussed on the beaches. The long coastline provide the best facility to do some fancy surfing and sailing, which is a pretty popular sport among the local lads as well. So, if you want to have some fun time with your loved ones, then San Sebastian is the place to be!

The Bustling Markets of Hong Kong

The Bustling Markets of Hong Kong

The hustle bustle of this city is not only about the tall skyscrapers and the booming business ventures, but also the great markets that this place possesses. Yes, if you are thinking that I am talking about the busy markets in Hong Kong, then you probably got that right. Though it was a part of the British colony for over 99 years, it has been on a steady ship and has never degraded in any division. The cultural aspects of the city has always been on a high and this is supported by the beautiful markets of Hong Kong. These markets are talked about in almost all parts of the world and it has attained trade importance due to the revenue that it churns out to the GDP of the country. Some of the best markets that can be found in Kowloon, and a few small markets are available in the area surrounding the Hong Kong harbour as well.

pearl

These markets are well known for the togetherness that they bring about. Be it a wealthy businessman or a man of middle class background, people from all classes dine together in these markets. Apart from things to eat and drink, these markets also have something to buy and do some shopping.

To start with the markets, the best one that one would suggest is probably the Temple Street Night Market. Located in Mongkok, this market runs for several blocks and it adds to the nightlife of the place. However, this market is not very prominent just because it is open only in the night time. Except for this fact, everything in this market is to be awed. The market consists of everything form electronic goods to clothing. The flashing lights and the busy roadside food stalls are a sight to watch and one must say that these markets get really congested during the night. But though this problems are prominent, the very nature of the market is an eye catchy sight and people still go to the market for the fun that it provides.

hong_kong_shopping_jade_market_stand

So, if the night time market is not your thing, then the Tung Choi Street should definitely be your place. There is also the Ladies market, which is quite popular among the locals and the travellers alike. The sheer volume of goods sold in these markets in a period of time is astounding. Single shop owners provide a good turnover to their businesses and thus finally, it gives a big turnover to the nation’s economy as well. The most famous things that are sold in these markets are mostly electronic items as China has an upper hand in this field. However, the shop vendors stick to the price that they say and there is no question of bargain in these markets. Howsoever, this is a good deal to the buyers as the electronic items sold here are far cheaper that the items that are found in the other parts of the world. The only thing that the user has to be very careful about is that they should be able to differentiate between the original goods and the fake goods.

To have a better deed of shopping in the markets of Hong Kong, the hassle free market in the south side of the island of Hong Kong is the place to be. Located in the center of Stanley, this market is also known as the “Market for beginners” to the tourists. The customers are treated as god and there is more scope of bargaining with these vendors. It is also suggested to the tourists that the best place to do some shopping for souvenirs to get back home is here. As it is located in the seaside, it is a must for everyone to visit the sea shore in Hong Kong as it is considered to be one of the best in the world.

4220447-Temple_Street_Night_Market_Hong_Kong

The market that is famous with people for those who do urban shopping as in the looks of New York, the best place to visit is the Sheung Wag market. Walking in the zig-zag roads of this market provides a great shopping experience. Another market that one should definitely visit in Hong Kong is the antiques market. The small miniature statues, lucky coins that you can gift your friends with, Etc. are available in this market and it gives you a great sense of shopping.

1.1.1.3-Ladies'-Market_03

The best thing that you can find in all these markets are the eateries. All these markets that have been mentioned have the best possible food in the entire city and the way in which this food is served is also a point to be noted. The tradition is followed in each step of the food making process and there are no two shops providing food of different tastes with the same name. So, if you are shopaholic who likes to get out there and do some shopping, spend some time with your loved ones, have some mouth-watering food in the open air restaurants that are available in the markets, then the only destination that any travel expert would suggest you are definitely the Markets in Hong Kong!

There is also an option where the travellers themselves can row the boat or else a rower can be hired from the boat hiring centre. The trip in the open waters makes one feel that they are up and close with the nature, which of course they are. The slow pace with which the boat travels makes the trip a romantic one to spend with your loved ones. After travelling for some distance, the snow-capped hills show up and it is an absolute treat to watch. The melting snow also forms a few beautiful waterfalls which add to the beauty of the place. The mountain on the bottom is covered with low growth shrubs and the green patch that it creates is it creates the effect of “icing on cake”, which snow being the icing.

Cameron Lake, Waterton Lakes National Park, Alberta, Canada, North America

However, it is advised by the tourism department that the travellers need not sit under the overhangs. It is often a sight to see that the overhangs are cracked and they start falling, leading to loss of life. So, it is always better to make sure that the advice is taken and avoid any kind of damage.

The Red Rock Canyon is also a place of interest and it gets its name from the Red Rocks that form the place. A short trip from the canyon will lead to the beautiful Blackiston Falls. The falls is a beautiful sight to watch and many travellers come to this place just to take a look at this falls. Therefore, it must be said that the visit to the park will leave one with the best of memories that one can have and cherish for the rest of their life.
